Instructions for Authors

1. Submission Overview and General Editorial Policies

Before submitting to Emerging Trends in Biomedical Sciences, authors should ensure their manuscripts comply with the journal’s editorial policies and scope. Manuscripts must contribute original research or review work within the journal’s scope; see Aims & Scope for guidance.

The journal follows Open Access, publishing under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). Copyright remains with authors. Submission implies that the manuscript has not been published previously or submitted elsewhere.

Authors are encouraged to check the Editorial Policies for guidance on scope, manuscript types, and publication ethics. The journal allows the use of AI tools only for language polishing, and their usage must be disclosed in the manuscript.

2. Manuscript Preparation

Authors must submit a cover letter explaining the study’s significance, novelty, and fit with the journal. Manuscripts from conferences or previously presented work must clearly state the event name, date, and location.

The journal accepts the following manuscript types:

  • Original Research Article: ≥5000 words, abstract ≤250 words, 3–8 keywords, ~40 references. Sections: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion.
  • Review Article: ≥5000 words, abstract ≤250 words, flexible section structure, ~70 references.
  • Short Communication: ≤4000 words, abstract ≤200 words, ≤15 references.
  • Editorial: ≤1200 words, optional references.
  • Letter to Editor: ≤1500 words, abstract ≤250 words, ≤20 references.
  • Perspective Article: 2000–3000 words, abstract ≤250 words, ~10 references.
  • Case Reports/Series: 1000–1500 / ≤4000 words, abstract ≤200 words, 3–8 keywords, references 15–30.

Authors must follow the journal’s [manuscript templates] for title page, main text, tables, figures, and back matter.

3. Title Page and Back Matter

The title should be concise, ≤16 words, and ≤120 characters. Include all authors’ names, affiliations, emails, and the corresponding author. ORCID IDs are recommended. Authorship order must be final at submission; changes post-acceptance are not allowed.

The abstract should summarize background, objectives, methods, results, and conclusions. Include keywords (3–8). A graphical abstract is encouraged for Original Research, Reviews, and Short Communications.

Back matter must include:

  • Acknowledgments
  • Funding and grant details
  • Conflicts of interest (see Conflict of Interest Policy)
  • Author contributions
  • Ethical approval and informed consent for human/animal studies
  • Data availability statements

4. Main Text

  • Introduction: Contextualize the problem, cite key literature, and define objectives.
  • Methods: Detailed enough to replicate, including materials, instruments, software, and statistical analysis.
  • Results: Present main findings clearly; figures and tables should complement text.
  • Discussion: Interpret results, highlight limitations, and suggest future research.
  • Conclusion: Concisely summarize the key findings.

References should follow AMA style with superscript numbering. Figures must be high-resolution (300–600 dpi), numbered sequentially, and cited in text. Tables must be editable and sequentially numbered. Follow standard conventions for units, abbreviations, numbers, and gene/protein nomenclature.

5. Supplementary Materials

Supplementary items can include additional figures, tables, datasets, multimedia (videos, audios), or algorithms. Label with an S prefix (e.g., Figure S1, Table S1). Video/audio files should be ≤500 MB and in accessible formats (mp4, mp3, wav).

6. Research and Publication Ethics

Authors must adhere to the Declaration of Helsinki and relevant local regulations. Misconduct, plagiarism, duplicate submissions, or data fabrication are prohibited. For detailed guidelines, refer to [Publication Ethics].

7. Authorship Criteria

Authorship is granted only to contributors who:

  1. Conceptualize or design the study
  2. Collect or analyze data
  3. Draft or revise the manuscript critically
  4. Approve the final version
  5. Take responsibility for accuracy

Non-qualifying contributors should be acknowledged but not listed as authors. AI cannot be listed as an author.

8. Suggesting / Excluding Reviewers

Authors may suggest up to three reviewers with full contact details and declare up to three reviewers to exclude with justification. Reviewers should have no conflict of interest.

9. Editorial Independence

Editors or staff submitting manuscripts undergo independent review by at least two external reviewers, with decisions made by unconflicted editors. See [Editorial Policies].

10. AI and AI-assisted Technologies

AI tools may only assist in language polishing (grammar, clarity, style). AI must not generate scientific content or interpret data. Usage must be disclosed in the methods section. AI cannot be listed as author.

11. Conflict of Interest

All potential conflicts must be disclosed in the cover letter and manuscript. If none, state: “The authors declare no conflicts of interest.” See [Conflict of Interest Policy] for more.

12. Editorial and Peer Review Process

All submissions undergo initial screening for scope and quality, followed by double-blind peer review. Editors make decisions: accept, revise, or reject. Compliance with manuscript formatting, referencing, and ethical guidelines is mandatory. Full details are available at [Editorial Process].
